Spring ‘08 pickup week 1 Thursday

Allison and Lilia: Thought it ran opposite MacF. Had no chance.  Was wrong, but still don’t get BS2.

Macross Frontier: Not only incredibly awesome, but changed up a lot from Deculture version. Has the best eyecatch gimmick ever.

xxxHolic Kei: Just plain dull; nothing really horrible, as long as you like noodles, but.

To-LOVE-ru:great > good > bad > so bad it’s good > too bad to be so bad it’s good > so bad you can have fun mocking it with friends > Manos > this. It’s so utterly horrible, and on at such a convenient time, I’m almost tempted to watch just to shit on it every week.

Kure-nai: I don’t get tvk.

JP animation DVD sales, weekly for 3/31

Low-selling week, with a lot of western stuff. Note to self: annoy Higurashi fanboy friends about The Simpsons -and- 101 Dalmatians both outselling its most recent volume.
Also, Ex Machina held on pretty good for an OVA.

Ratings update, 2008 Spring New TV Animation List

Ratings are updated, mostly backfill—pretty much everything is good for all of winter.

In addition, I put together a list of what’s coming these next couple weeks, with time and date noted.  Starting this season are three morning shows, 5 evening, and 28 late-night.

JP animation DVD sales, weekly for 3/24

Totoro broke 800,000, and is still only down to half its average weekly sales. You can pretty much tell a dead week by how much Ghibli shows up, and with two in the top 100, four noted total…
Nice to see that Gundam 00 is at least hitting the low 40s lifetime, though. When the BluRays start coming out in August, even 10k will leave it pretty respectible.

TV Animation Ratings, wks. 2/25 and 3/3

First off, I’ve Google Docsed the ratings info; depending on how convenient it is to update and whether I receive any response as to a preferred format for others, it may continue to be done that way.

In addition, the following things are notable:

* Gundam 00 ramping up about as expectable; 4.4 for 3/1, 4.6 for 3/8, 5.0 for 3/15, 5.6 for 3/22.  To contrast, SEED’s same weeks were 6.6, 6.2, 5.8, 5.9; SEED-D’s were 4.4, 5.4, 5.0, 6.0.

* Dragonauts and Negima live-action get a viewership BOOST when their broadcast time changes.

And, a short look at demographics for a couple of mainstream shows:

JP animation DVD sales, weekly for 3/17

This week is pretty much back to normal dull sales. The only major niche releases were theatrical Clannad, kneecapped by its three-SKU release, and Toward the Terra, another step in the downward spiral of Doroku towards its termination in two weeks; the monthly DBGT double-release, which is coming out at R1 prices, easily outdid both.

JP animation DVD sales, weekly for 3/10

Nothing really surprising this week at all. Gundam sells according to expectations, Gurren runs in the middle ground between kids’ show and nerd show it’s always occupied, and the big OVAs from last week hold on is the lower half.

Gundam is still lagging, Hellsing and Votoms are both a little low but close to par, and in general way too much shit came out this week—so much, it pushed Totoro out of the top 100.
